Sellmoo.com is a small yet promising online auction site that’s slowly but surely making a name for itself in the penny auction world. The site prides itself for nurturing a community of bidders whom they consult for advice on how to improve operations.

While Sellmoo.com is lauded by some for offering fair and honest auctions to their members, it is unfortunately held back by site bugs and glitches that have cropped up repeatedly since they first went online.

Another factor about Sellmoo that might disappoint bidders who are familiar with penny auction sites is its low number of live auctions. The penny auction only has about 8 to 12 live auctions at any given time, with a third of that number allocated to bid packs and other “freebies.”

It doesn’t help either that items on Sellmoo aren’t as glitzy nor enticing as the ones being showcased on other, more popular penny auctions. You have the ubiquitous gift cards—a staple in the industry—and of course the customary mid-range electronics such as iPods, video game consoles, etc. Sellmoo does occasionally have a major auction on a hot item—this usually happens once a month—but if you’re the type who likes gunning for big-ticket products and merchandise, you might want to stick to the more established sites.

Sellmoo is another new online penny auction, and is so far one of our favorites when it comes to style and page layout. The site looks fun and vibrant – exactly how we think a penny auction geared at competitive shopping should look like.

Sellmoo works like most penny auctions, in that each bid increases the item’s price by 1- to 2-cent increments. Each bid placed also increases the timer by 20 seconds, with the last bidder winning the prize after the time expires. To eliminate “sniper bidders”, the timer is set to tick down to zero once it goes below 30 seconds, and will continue to do so regardless of how many bids are placed.

Prizes on Sellmoo range from the “ordinary” gift cards from Amazon, Applebee’s, Walmart, and Bestbuy; to big-ticket items such as Xbox 360s, Apple products, and many more. For a site that’s only been around for over 2 months, we find that assortment pretty impressive.

Bids are also competitively priced at 50 cents each, with 3 bids given for free when you register. Sellmoo sells these bids in packages, but we haven’t found any information on how much these packs actually cost.

Sellmoo is also very receptive to feedback, even going as far as to create a forum on the site for users to post suggestions and complaints. There’s also a Community page where bidders can write reviews about the products they’ve won on the site.

In its first few weeks, Sellmoo was pretty buggy, with lags and crashes taking place every now and then. The site’s management has been diligent enough to address these issues.

Another strong point for Sellmoo is customer service. Sellmoo’s admin staff is quick to respond to inquiries and complaints – they’ve even placed a live chat window during auctions.
