Has penny auction site Wavee.com closed their doors? It certainly looks that way by visiting their website or looking at what other people are saying about the site. Wavee has been known to not ship items and not provide refunds to their customers. We believe legal consequences have finally caught up to them.
The Better Business Bureau gives Wavee an F, and reports 619 complaints within the last 12 months. And according to CBSAtlanta.com, Wavee is being investigated by the Georgia Governors Office of Consumer Protection.
“Greg Feather said he has won several bids on wavee.com during the past two years, but he said the company never shipped 40 items and he hasn’t received a refund either.”
Here’s the message posted on their website:

Penny Auctions may have been around for a few years, but lately it seems more and more people are catching on. Discussion across the internet has been growing rapidly, with Google now reporting 742,000 results for the search term “penny auctions”. MSNBC.com, one of the top visited news websites, even featured an article about penny auctions today on their home page.
The article, An iPad for $2.82, or illegal gambling? , explains how penny auctions work, and discusses whether penny auctions should be considered gambling or not. Of course this argument is not new, and we’ve been hearing about it ever since penny auctions started getting attention. What’s interesting though is the national media coverage of the penny auction industry. How is this increasing amount of attention going to affect penny auctions?
It could mean many different things for us bidders. For one, the increased attention will bring in more people that want to give penny auctions a try. Yes, this will mean more competition, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
We all know (at least we hope you know) that penny auctions don’t rely on chance. There’s a lot of strategy involved, and statistically the more experience bidders usually win more often than the newbies. With tons of new players flowing into PA sites, the competition among experienced bidders will be dispersed. And of course, it’s easier to win against a first-timer than a power bidder.
More bidders also mean more revenue for PA sites, and more revenue can translate into more valuable and wider prize selections.
So we’re excited to see the increased attention in our industry, and are looking forward to the changes that may come with it. What do you think?

Do You Know the Warning Signs of Fraud? This question is posed by UPS in one of the company’s latest publications. The reason for the warning is a increase of complaints to UPS by irate customers claiming items they paid for or won were never received. UPS then proceeded to inform consumers of their 8 fraud warning signs, and information on how to not be a victim. Below is a copy of the warning signs of fraud and scams listed by UPS, in effort to curb the dishonestly and deceit.
1-If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Always remain aware of how much you are spending on a item. Always be sure that the final price is not more then you would have payed at a local retail store..
2-Puts pressure on potential customers by telling you to act quickly- Is the site stating that they can only do certain deals if you move quickly?
3-Promises extremely high merchandise, for mere pocket change. it should be noted that you cannot always win an item for less than retail.
4-Requires an upfront financial obligation from you. There are some sites that do not and have satisfied customers, meaning their users have won and received items. Do your homework.
5-Buyers want you to to send them the difference and overpay you for an item. This is a common scam which mostly happened on Craigslist not penny auctions, but be careful.
6-Does not give the impression of a legitimate business. Be vigilant of everything and find out if they have a legit business name, address? What are their privacy policies, terms & conditions? Research. Investigate, put their address in Google, map it out. Go to the Secretary of State’s office website in the state the site is said to be located in and look to see if they’re even a registered company. Check their Alexa ranking, if the number is large that means their traffic is pretty low and you see a lot of bidders and winners they may not be a totally honest site.
7-Guarantees success. Are they guaranteeing you will win? because no person is guaranteed to be the winner, and if so they can not call themselves a fair site.
8-Something just doesn’t feel right. Go with your gut instinct when it comes to spending your money. It will usually lead you to the right decision.
