Bid-Save.com, an online penny auction that mainly offers gift cards from a variety of retail outlets and restaurants, is widely regarded as a site that’s ideal for penny auction beginners. There are usually 8 auctions per day, yet this with this limited number, winning is still very possible, but also requires some careful observation and timing.
Bids on Bid-Save are priced at 75 to 90 cents each, and come in packs of 25 up to 500 bids. Of course, the larger the bid pack, the less money you have to spend. Each bid placed on an item increases its price by 1 cent, and also adds 10 to 30 seconds (depending on the auction) to the clock timer. The last bidder before the timer runs out wins the auction, and pays for the last price of the item, as well as shipping and other applicable tax charges.
Bid-Save’s auction style is pretty straightforward and similar to many penny auctions, and the novice will definitely not have any trouble understanding the business model.
Shipping varies between items, but for gift cards, the rate usually costs less than $3.00. We give Bid-Save a good mark for disclosing shipping details to their winning bidders, something which many penny auctions fail to do for their members. It’s pretty common for penny auction winners to wait (nervously) for their item/s to arrive at their doorstep, with no idea if the site they registered in just scammed them or not. We are however, somewhat disappointed with the 15-day day shipping period.
Bid-Save accepts payments through credit or debit cards, as well as PayPal. Customer support is apparently top-notch with the site, though we’ll have to find out for ourselves when we encounter site problems. Issues on Bid-Save include the usual timer freezing and lags.
