Hammey.com is a bit of an enigma in the penny auction world. Firstly, there isn’t any information about the person or company behind the site. Secondly, the FAQ and instructions on how to get started left us wanting. We’re not exactly English grammar Nazis or anything, but still, when a site doesn’t make an effort to make sure that everything is perfectly understandable to its members, especially those new to penny auctions, then it speaks volumes about the kind of service they offer.
But let’s put that aside for a moment and go over what Hammey has to offer.
For a site with low traffic, it’s surprising that Hammey has a number of big-ticket prizes that are more common in established penny auctions. Hammey features items such as laptops, HDTVs, iPhones, iPods, PS3’s, PSP’s and more. Note that these are premium items that cost hundreds of dollars.
Each auction’s starting price on Hammey is at $0.00. Bids placed on an item raise its price by 1-cent increments. Each bid also resets the timer by a set amount of time, usually 2 minutes. The auction ends when the timer runs out, and the last bidder wins the item and gets to buy it for its final price.
Bids are called credits on Hammey, and are sold in packs of 10 to 200. Credits have a starting price of $1.00 each, but that can be slashed in half if you purchase more bids. You can pay for credits via PayPal, which is a plus in our book.
Anyway, the fact that information on Hammey.com isn’t readily available to the public is worrisome to us. The only way to contact the site’s management is to e-mail them at info@hammey.com or infohammey@gmail.com. Not very reassuring if you ask us.
