No Deal At BigDeal.com

August 23, 2011

Its official, the site hailed by some auction reporters as the penny auction front runner has apparently closed its doors and it seems as if its, for good.  It appears that BigDeal.com received more in Investor funding then they actually sold in retail sales to customers on the web.  BigDeal.com turned out to be no deal at all, when you type in there domain name  you are automatically forwarded to Bidcactus.com, now with that being said the only question that remains is, if Bidcactus.com is taking in all of BigDeals old clients are they also shipping  items owed to clients of BigDeal.com? It would appear that Bidcactus is handling all of the shipping logistics for BigDeal.com, since BigDeal.com is forwarding there members to contact BidCactus.com. To us here at PAI, BigDeal and Bidcactus appears to be just one big mess, if you have any other pertinent information about BigDeal.com please let us know by contacting our auction hotline.

Calls were placed to Bigdeal.com, they have not been available for comment.

Lawsuit Filed Against Swoopo, OohILove, BidCactus, and Other Penny Auction Websites

April 3, 2011

A lawsuit was filed on February 11, 2011 against 6 major penny auction websites- Swoopo.com, OohILove.com, BidCactus.com, Quibids.com, Beezid.com, and BigDeal.com. You can view the lawsuit document here in PDF.

According to the document, these penny auction websites are violating US gambling laws.

“This action alleges that Defendants operate illegal Internet gambling websites, by permitting persons to play games of chance for money and/or make a wager upon the result of a game or contest.”

Also quoted from the lawsuit document-

Defendants conduct of charging consideration for the chance to win prizes (or something of value), violates all 50 state laws prohibiting unauthorized gambling.”

Currently, both Swoopo.com and OohILove.com (both owned and operated by Entertainment Shopping, INC) have shut down their websites. Although Swoopo claims it’s down due to technical issues. Swoopo also has another class action lawsuit filed against them in California, Hernandez v. Entertainment Shopping, Inc. The California lawsuit was filed March 21, 2011.

What do you think? Should penny auctions be considered illegal gambling?

San Francisco-based online auction site BigDeal has recently launched their completely re-designed website to better cater to their bidders, customers and visitors. Decked with a new logo and a new color scheme for each of their product categories, BigDeal has also unveiled a new addition to their already diverse product line-up.

Style, the newest product category of BigDeal has a keen focus on fine, luxury jewelry. However, Style is only the first step in an initiative to cater to more female customers. BigDeal also promises more women-targeted items to be unveiled on the site in the near future. Style joins BigDeal’s other popular product categories such as At Home (featuring various home goods) and Tech (showcasing various gadgets up for bidding).

To promote their new Style category, BigDeal is tying it up with their Loyalty Bucks program, offering 50% to 60% off on select jewelry items at their Loyalty Bucks Store. For those unfamiliar with the concept, every dollar spent on BigDeal bids will add a dollar to the bidder’s Loyalty Bucks account. These Loyalty Bucks can then be spent on other items on BigDeal at a significant discount. Loyalty Bucks have been a great way for active BigDeal bidders to get more value for their money.

To help advertise their re-launched and re-designed site, BigDeal has taken to their Facebook page in promoting free bids for the growing auction site. BigDeal aims to reward users with a more refreshing, eye-pleasing and accessible bidding experience than before. Stay tuned for more updates on further developments on the site.
